Course Description: Pressure on water availability and its use is rising and immediate action is the need of the hour. Gaps in access to water supply and sanitation, growing populations, more water-intensive patterns of growth, increasing rainfall variability and pollution are combining in many places to make water one of the greatest risks to economic progress, poverty eradication and sustainable development.

Today, many companies recognize that failure to manage the issue of fresh water raises business risk, including damage to the corporate image, threat of increased regulatory control, financial risks caused by pollution and insufficient freshwater availability for operations. A number of multinationals recognise now that proactive management can avoid risks and contribute to their profitability and competitiveness.

Effective implementation of a water efficiency management plan not only results in substantial savings in water but also energy; thereby reducing the environmental impact of both water discharge and the need to pump water over long distances. The adoption and proper implementation of a water efficiency management system is therefore intended to result in improved water efficiency, apart from demonstrating compliance to local legislative requirements.

This two day course enables organizations to assess and account for their water use, and to identify, plan and implement measures to achieve water savings through the systematic management of water. ISO 46001 will help to clarify the ‘what’ as well as the ‘why’ – thereby enabling an organization to develop and implement a water efficiency policy through the establishment of objectives, targets, action plans, monitoring, benchmarking, and review programs.
